An insight into the eagerness of dismissed Barcelona head coach Xavi to bid farewell to loanee João Félix this summer has today been provided.
The info comes courtesy of Diario Sport, citing journalist Ricard Torquemada during an appearance on Catalunya Radio TDT, who reiterates the fact that Xavi, for his part, never wanted Félix in the first place.
The Portuguese was of course brought to Catalunya’s capital on loan from La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid last summer, as something of a replacement for the outbound Ansu Fati.
As much came at the direct recommendation of Barca sporting director Deco.
Félix’s performances across the length of the campaign, though, only served in confirming Xavi’s prior concerns.
The 44-year-old considers the frontman to be a wonderfully talented player, boasting all of the technical attributes to shine at the top level of the game.
Xavi’s worries, though, always surrounded Félix’s inability to string together a consistent run of excellence.
After the former Benfica prodigy’s stellar opening to the campaign was followed by months of hit-and-miss displays, the Blaugrana coaching staff, in turn, made clear to the club’s board that they were eager for a more dependable player to be brought in in Félix’s place.
