Why Sergi Roberto could remain at Barcelona next season

A fresh insight into the future of Barcelona star Sergi Roberto has come to the fore late this evening.

And the info comes in stark contrast to that to have been circulating in the Spanish media for several weeks now.

It has of course been widely reported since late last month that Roberto is all set to bring a close to his career-long stint on the books of Barcelona upon the season coming to an end.

This comes with the versatile midfielder’s contract set to expire, and departing boss Xavi having been named as the only influential figure in Catalunya keen for Roberto to be offered fresh terms.

If the latest word stemming from Diario Sport is anything to go by, however, then this could not be further from the truth.

Now, it is claimed that those behind the scenes at Barcelona are more than satisfied with Roberto’s ongoing contribution, on the pitch and in the lock room alike.

‘His involvement is highly valued , his contribution when he has been able to play, his role in keeping the locker room together and accepting a contract that helps comply with financial ‘fair play’.’

Not only that, but the 32-year-old himself is also keen to stay put for at least one more season.

This means that a final decision on Roberto’s future will in fact only be forthcoming upon the Blaugrana’s new manager being named, and running the rule over the situation.
