An explanation for Real Madrid donning a kit not seen since last season in the club’s meeting with Valencia on Saturday has been forthcoming online.
Real, of course, are set to mark their return to action in short order.
Amid ongoing efforts to maintain their advantage atop the La Liga table, Carlo Ancelotti’s troops have made the trip to the Mestalla, for a hotly-anticipated showdown with the aforementioned Valencia.
As alluded to above, though, in taking to the pitch for the clash, the evening’s visitors will not be wearing their standard away kit.
In fact, Los Blancos’ stars will not even be sporting a kit from their 2023/24 collection.
Instead, Real are all set to line out on Saturday in their purple away jersey from last season.
Why? To avoid a clash with the colours of their hosts.
As per a report from the reliable Arancha Rodríguez of Cope:
‘It will be this way to avoid confusion with the Valencia kit. You cannot play in white, blue or black. That is the reason.’
