Why Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on Man City’s 115-charge case

The powers that be at La Liga giants Real Madrid are keeping a keen eye on developments in the ongoing investigation into English champions Manchester City.

This comes amid long-standing interest on the part of Real in a member of the midfield ranks at The Etihad.

The player in question? Rodri.

Fresh off bidding farewell to the now-retired Toni Kroos over the summer, the brass at the Santiago Bernabéu are understood to consider Spanish international Rodri as one of few players in world football who could come close to filling the void left by the iconic German.

As per a report from Man City insider Sam Lee of The Athletic, Los Blancos are indeed interested in bringing the 28-year-old back to La Liga.

However, Florentino Pérez and co. are aware that, from a financial standpoint, at present, they simply do not possess the means to make a move happen.

And yet, all hope is not yet lost…

Should the unthinkable happen, and Manchester City be hit with a potentially club-altering punishment for their breaches of 115 Premier League rules, then Real will be waiting in the wings, ready to pounce:

‘Madrid’s thinking is that if City are found guilty and receive a major punishment — City maintain their innocence — then there may be an opportunity to make a move for Rodri.’
