Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has been left deeply unsettled by Kylian Mbappé’s impending departure from the club.
That’s according to Diario Sport, citing L’Equipe, who point towards growing tensions behind the scenes at the Parc des Princes.
The relationship between Enrique and Mbappé, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the headlines across Europe over the last 24 hours.
This comes after PSG’s boss took the surprise decision to hook his star man from proceedings, with the capital giants in search of an equaliser in a Ligue 1 meeting with Stade Rennais.
Drawn on the situation post-match, Enrique did not shy away, either, all but confirming Mbappé’s imminent exit in explaining:
“Sooner or later, this is going to happen and we have to get used to playing without Kylian.”
As much was taken as a hint at potential trouble brewing between player and manager, with as much, on Monday, having been confirmed.
As per the aforementioned L’Equipe, Luis Enrique is not at all happy with how the situation surrounding Mbappé’s future has been handled.
Understandably keen for things to be kept under wraps amid such a crucial stretch of the season for his side, the Spanish tactician feels that it is the wrong time for a ‘soap opera to have broken out’.
Enrique is not at all upset with the decision of his attacking talisman to move on, presumably to Real Madrid.
But, during a sit down meeting between the pair last week, the former Barcelona headmaster made clear his feelings that Mbappé and his entourage should have dealt with the matter in a more ‘professional’ manner.
And even this did not go according to plan, with Enrique having been keen for the PSG brass to join him in discussions, only to be left in a one-to-one summit with Mbappé.
It now remains to be seen whether the pair can patch up their relationship, or risk destabilizing the entirety of PSG’s season.
