Why Marc Guiu has been left out of Xavi’s Barcelona squad to face Osasuna

An explanation for the absence of youngster Marc Guiu from Barcelona’s latest matchday squad has been provided late this evening.

Xavi Hernández’s troops, of course, are primed to return to action in short order.

In their first outing since Xavi’s announcement that he intends to step down from his position upon the close of the campaign, Barca have welcomed Osasuna to the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, for a La Liga clash.

The Blaugrana will head into proceedings nothing short of desperate for a bounce-back result, now sitting 4th in the Spanish top-flight standings owing to Saturday’s defeat at the hands of Villarreal.

Such efforts, as alluded to above, though, will not be aided by a highly-regarded up-and-coming member of the club’s attacking ranks.

Upon Barcelona’s squad list to face Osasuna being announced earlier today, it was noted that frontman Marc Guiu was nowhere to be seen.

And an explanation for as much has since been provided.

As per a report from Diario Sport, Guiu is suffering from a bout of illness, with an elevated fever having forced the 18-year-old out of training on Tuesday.

He has since not recovered in time, with fellow La Masia talent Unai called up in Guiu’s place.
