Several leading clubs across the La Liga landscape were less than amused to see youngster Raúl Asencio’s emergence onto the first-team stage at Real Madrid last weekend.
This comes owing to their respective pursuits of his signature.
The name of defender Asencio of course took its place front and centre in the Spanish media headlines last weekend.
This came after the injury crisis at the heart of Real Madrid’s backline afforded the 21-year-old the chance to showcase his talents at senior level.
And this is an opportunity which Asencio went on to grasp with both hands.
Across an hour on the pitch in Los Blancos’ La Liga meeting with Osasuna, the stopper shone on both sides of the ball, rock solid when defending, and neat and tidy in possession (he even managed to chip in with an assist).
Whilst as much proved a major boost for Carlo Ancelotti and his coaching staff, however, the developments went down altogether more poorly with several rival clubs in Spain’s top-flight.
As per a report from Marca:
‘Not everyone was happy with the spectacular impact he had on his debut under Ancelotti. And that is because his brilliant performance has upset the plans of teams that were quietly working on the signing of the Castilla centre-back.’
The clubs in question included Girona, Celta Vigo, and a leading outfit in Portugal.
All three are understood to have been hopeful of luring Asencio away from Madrid in January, a task now labelled as ‘impossible’.
This comes with the Castilla product now considered an important first-team player at the Santiago Bernabéu.
