Why Ferran Torres was not present at Barcelona vs Espanyol

An explanation for the absence of Ferran Torres from the stands at Barcelona’s meeting with Espanyol has this evening been forthcoming online.

Barca, of course, marked their return to action a short time ago, locking horns with neighbours Espanyol in a derby clash.

When all was said and done at Montjuïc, the Blaugrana made it six wins on the spin across all competitions, courtesy of goals on the part of Dani Olmo (2), and Raphinha.

And watching on from the crowd at Montjuïc were a number of sidelined members of Hansi Flick’s squad, including Ronald Araújo, Andreas Christensen, and Eric García.

Notably absent from the stadium entirely, though, was the aforementioned Ferran Torres.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Ferran’s whereabouts was put to boss Hansi Flick.

And the German tactician went on to reveal that the versatile attacker understandably requested not to attend, struggling with the mental toll of this week’s devastating floods in his home city of Valencia:

“I fully understand that he didn’t have the strength to come. He told us that he didn’t feel up to it. There are much more important things than football (Valencia)… It’s normal.”
