Why doesn’t the transfer window close on the same day that La Liga begins?

Many people have surely wondered why the transfer window closing does not coincide with the beginning of La Liga, and Relevo have released an article discussing this.

Simply, closing the transfer window on the same day that La Liga begins would disadvantage Spanish teams, and La Liga as a whole. This is because the market would still be open for teams in other leagues, which could leave La Liga teams defenceless in certain negotiations.

For example, if Liverpool signed Luka Modrić on the last day of the Spanish transfer window, and then the window closed, Real Madrid would be at a huge disadvantage as they would not have time to sign a replacement.

For this reason, the top five leagues in Europe all have a pact to end their transfer windows on the same day, so that the playing field is level. Once in 2018, the Premier League closed the window at a separate date to everyone else, and it caused huge issues and came under a lot of criticism. Since then, no league has gone against the norm.
