Comments on the part of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong have piqued widespread attentions across the Spanish media late this evening.
This comes after the Dutch international made use of the opportunity to take aim at the country’s journalists for spreading ‘lies’.
De Jong faced the media a short time ago, as part of the pre-match press conference for the club’s upcoming Champions League showdown with Napoli.
And, inevitably, his future in Catalunya quickly took its place centre stage in proceedings.
De Jong’s plans beyond the summer have long been the subject of speculation in the media, amid suggestions that he is ready to seek out a transfer with a view to next season.
Drawn directly on claims that he was recently left unimpressed by a proposal to extend his contract with Barcelona, the former Ajax man, though, could bite his tongue no more.
In response to Ferran Martinez of Mundo Deportivo, De Jong sniped:
“Lies. You write a lot, don’t you? In Mundo Deportivo, like other outlets, you write things that are lies! Why do you do that? Why do you make things up?”
He continued:
“The truth is that I’m a bit pissed off with what you people write in general! A lot of things are coming out that are not true, it’s irritating me.”
