Why Barcelona will be concerned with the referee appointment for Celta Vigo clash

The powers that be at Barcelona will no doubt be cursing their luck, when it comes to the lead official appointed for the club’s upcoming La Liga outing.

This comes amid confirmation that Pulido Santana will take charge of the club’s weekend meeting with Celta Vigo.

Referee Santana, for his part, has taken charge of two of the Blaugrana’s La Liga fixtures in the past.

Both came last season, and Xavi’s troops failed to emerge triumphant from either – a 0-0 stalemate with Getafe, and defeat at the hands of none other than upcoming opponents Celta.

Not only that, but, as per Diario Sport, Santana is widely considered to be one of the ‘lowest-rated referees in the EA Sports League’.

Amid a campaign which has seen officiating take its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital for altogether less than positive reasons, Barcelona, in turn, will no doubt be desperate to avoid another controversy this weekend.

The Blaugrana are set to make the trip to Balaídos on Saturday evening, for an 18:30 kick-off (CET).
