Why Barcelona have raised doubts over the appointment of Hansi Flick

A fresh insight into the plans of the powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona to source the club’s next head coach has today been provided.

And the news will come as a blow to all of those hopeful of Hansi Flick being the man chosen to take up the reins.

The name of German tactician Flick has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Barcelona for several weeks now.

This comes amid the widespread understanding that the former Bayern Munich boss has been identified as a leading candidate to replace the outbound Xavi with a view to next season.

Joan Laporta, for his part, is particularly keen on Flick, eager to install a German on the Camp Nou bench this summer.

And yet, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, the 59-year-old’s arrival, all of a sudden, is beginning to look increasingly unlikely.

As per a report from Marca, Barcelona sporting director Deco has laid out the conditions that the next manager to take his place in the Camp Nou dugout must have coached in a number of countries.

As much comes in a bid to ensure that the candidate is as well-rounded as possible, boasting knowledge of an array of cultures, languages, and tactical setups.

With Hansi Flick yet to take up a job outside of his home country of Germany, Marca therefore conclude that ‘without being ruled out, his options right now are slim.’
