Why Antonio Rüdiger has become so important for Real Madrid

Antonio Rüdiger has played almost all of the minutes that he possibly could have this season.

Due to Real Madrid’s injuries, Rüdiger has been indispensable and according to AS, has played 95% of the minutes this season. The German has featured in 940 minutes out of a possible 990 and he is getting no rest with Germany either.

Even Jude Bellingham, whilst making such an unbelievable start and being only 20 years old, has been rested more.

A big reason for Carlo Ancelotti not resting Rüdiger is due to the absence of fellow centre-back Éder Militão. The Brazilian got injured in August and Madrid have seen their defensive resources depleted for the majority of the season so far.

Rüdiger will also be key in the heart of his side’s defence when Real Madrid take on Sevilla this weekend and Barcelona in El Clásico on October 28.
