Who will be Barcelona’s 3rd-choice goalkeeper this season?

An insight into the plans of the coaching staff at La Liga giants Barcelona when it comes to the club’s goalkeeper pecking order has been provided early this week.

This comes ahead of an impending battle between Áron Yaakobishvili and Eder Aller.

The first two spots between the posts in Hansi Flick’s squad have of course been locked in place since the summer of 2025: Joan García as outright no.1, backed by the experienced Wojciech Szczęsny.

Marc-André ter Stegen is expected to depart Catalunya’s capital on a 2nd successive loan over the coming weeks, leaving one remaining place in the first-team goalkeeper ranks at the Camp Nou for 2026/27.

And as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, then a pair of contenders now appear to have separated themselves from the pack in the running for this role.

As per Mundo Deportivo, with the highly-regarded Iker Rodríguez primed to continue his development with Barca Atlètic:

‘The internal plan, with five weeks remaining before the transfer window closes, is to complete the trio with Áron Yaakobishvili or Eder Aller.’

‘Yaako’ (20) is fresh off a year out on loan with FC Andorra, whilst Aller (19) was a regular feature on the bench at senior level in Barcelona in 2025/26.
