The La Liga side only need four more points from their remaining five games to secure the title.
Carlo Ancelotti’s team could be crowned champions on Sunday night, depending on how other results go between now and then.
Barcelona currently have two games in hand over Los Blancos and if they win both, Madrid will have to wait a bit longer.
Madrid could also be crowned champions if they beat Espanyol on April 30 and Barcelona lose to Mallorca the following day.
Ancelotti’s side would only need to draw against Espanyol to put themselves in with a chance of winning the title against cross-city rivals Atlético Madrid on May 8.
If Madrid beat Espanyol and Atlético, they will be crowned La Liga champions regardless of what the other teams around them do.
Barcelona return to league action tonight when they travel to take on Real Sociedad.
