When Barcelona finally decided to go all out to sign Nico Williams

A fresh insight into the ongoing transfer saga linking Athletic Club star Nico Williams with a move to La Liga rivals Barcelona has been forthcoming online.

It is of course common knowledge across all of Spain that the brass at the Camp Nou have identified wide-man Nico as their leading target with a view to next season.

Fresh off a scintillating Euro 2024 campaign, the 22-year-old is considered the ideal profile to fill the space on the Blaugrana’s left flank.

Negotiations, in turn, have long been kicked into gear, between Deco and his team, and Nico’s entourage.

And, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, a definitive agreement between the parties is now closer than ever to being found.

So, what ultimately led to Barcelona concluding that Nico was the player needed to take Hansi Flick’s squad to the next level?

As per a report from Diario Sport, the final call was made during the European Championships:

‘The Blaugrana club was clear that they had to bring in, at the very least, one player who would be different up front and in the tournament any possible doubts were dispelled: Nico was the man and everything possible had to be done to bring him in.’

Contacts had already been initiated between the parties prior to the tournament, but Nico’s explosive exploits on the Spanish left wing over the last month saw the decision made an easy one for the Camp Nou hierarchy.
