What’s at stake on the final day in La Liga?

In a season that began on 12 August, the final round of La Liga games will be played on Sunday. The campaign will have lasted 296 days, and included a World Cup as well. There is still a lot to play for on the last matchday, and some things have already been confirmed.

Barcelona are the champions, and the rest of the top four is also set in stone. Villarreal and Real Betis have taken the Europa League spots, as Betis continue their turn in fortunes since their poor campaign in the 2019-20 season, when they finished 15th.

Europa Conference League qualification is up for grabs on the last day, and four teams are still in the running for one spot. Osasuna in seventh, and Rayo Vallecano in 10th, are only separated by one point. Girona and Athletic Bilbao are the two other teams who have a chance.

At the other end of the table, Espanyol and Elche have already been relegated. Amazingly, there are still six possible teams who could suffer the same fate on Sunday. Cádiz, Getafe, Valencia, Almería, Celta Vigo and Real Valladolid are all in danger. The game to look out for is Real Valladolid against Getafe, as that could end up being a straight shootout for the final relegation spot.

On the final day, there is sure to be heartbreak and jubilation, tears and smiles, but whatever happens, there is sure to be drama.
