What Toni Kroos’ return to German squad means for his Real Madrid future

The powers that be at La Liga giants Real Madrid view Toni Kroos’ decision to come out of international retirement as a positive step towards keeping hold of their midfield star.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have this evening provided an insight into the latest ongoings behind the scenes in Spain’s capital.

The name of veteran Kroos, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the headlines across Europe over the course of the day to date.

This comes after the midfield maestro announced his long-awaited return to the German national team setup.

Citing a direct request from Die Mannschaft boss Julian Nagelsmann, Kroos took to his social media platforms, to confirm his intention to partake in Euro 2024, in his home country.

As alluded to above, though, the DFB brass are not the only ones to have been left enthused by Kroos’ bombshell announcement on Thursday.

Joining the Germans in celebrating as much were the hierarchy at the 34-year-old’s club, Real Madrid.

As revealed by the aforementioned MD, Kroos’ latest career move ‘is a decision that fuels Real Madrid’s hopes’ of tying their engine room conductor down to fresh terms.

It is of course common knowledge that Kroos’ contract at the Santiago Bernabéu is due to expire in the summer.

As much comes with the former Bayern Munich man continuing to give serious consideration to an early retirement from the game.

Today’s announcement, though, has been taken by Florentino Pérez and his team of directors as a sign of Kroos’ ‘desire to continue competing at the highest level’.

They are therefore hopeful that it will ultimately lead to the German coming to a similar conclusion regarding his future at club level, before putting pen to paper on the terms of an extension through the summer of 2025.
