What does Guido’s signing mean for Barcelona’s midfield plans for the summer?

La Liga giants Barcelona are expected to close an imminent deal for Real Betis star Guido Rodríguez.

What does the impending arrival of the Argentine, though, mean for the club’s plans for the summer transfer window?

It is of course common knowledge that the Barcelona brass are desperate to add to their options in the middle of the park with a view to next season.

Specifically, the Blaugrana want to reinforce the base of boss Xavi’s engine room.

With the struggles being endured by Oriol Romeu having forced defender Andreas Christensen into a more advanced role in midfield of late, the need for fresh bodies has been laid absolutely bare.

And Guido, according to widespread reports, will be first through the door at the Camp Nou, amid advanced negotiations over the terms of a pre-contract between the parties.

As revealed by Diario Sport, however, if Barcelona have their way, he will not be the only midfield arrival ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

This comes amid confirmation that ‘Barça’s ideal roadmap involves signing the Argentine and another’.

A four-man pivot shortlist has long been drawn up by Deco and his team of directors, consisting of Amadou Onana, Joshua Kimmich, Mats Wieffer, and Martín Zubimendi.

And though it is at present unclear whether the Catalans will have the financial muscle to close deals for any of the quartet, all going according to plan, one will be be signed before the summer is out.
