Real Madrid star Aurélien Tchouaméni was tonight drawn on the ongoing speculation linking fellow countryman Kylian Mbappé with a move to the club.
This, of course, comes fresh off another night to remember for Real on the continent.
After making the trip to Germany to take on RB Leipzig in the first leg of the Champions League Last-16 tie between the clubs, Los Blancos emerged on the right side of a 1-0 result, owing to a solitary moment of magic on the part of Brahim Díaz.
The aforementioned Tchouaméni, meanwhile, played a pivotal role, starring in an unfamiliar central defensive berth amid the ongoing injury crisis at the heart of the Carlo Ancelotti’s backline.
And yet, post-match, it was a question surrounding one of his teammates at international level which took its place front and centre in the midfielder’s latest media exchange.
The player in question? Kylian Mbappé.
It is of course common knowledge that negotiations are currently in full swing between frontman Mbappé and the Real Madrid brass, over the terms of a free agent transfer in the summer.
Asked for an insight into developments on Tuesday night, however, Tchouaméni admitted that whilst he has discussed the subject with the PSG star, he is unaware of Mbappé’s decision regarding his future:
“Mbappé to Real Madrid? He hasn’t told me, and even if he did, I wouldn’t tell you (laughs). Yes, we talk about it in the locker room because it’s an important subject. Hopefully we know more in the next weeks.”
