“We are very excited because it could be a magical night, but there is no optimism”- Carlo Ancelotti on Bayern Munich encounter

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti says he is not “optimistic” about the second-leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final match with Bayern Munich and thinks that the Bundesliga side played better in the first-leg.

In the first-leg, Madrid travelled to Munich and set themselves up to hurt the opposition during transitions. Los Blancos took the lead through Vinicius Jr, who showed great composure to find the back of the net after latching on to Toni Kroos’ accurate through ball.

However, this goal came against the run of play with Bayern dominating proceedings. The German giants scored a quick fire double in the second half to turn the game on its head.

Although, Madrid equalised late on to secure a draw away from home, Ancelotti is fearful of the threats Bayern could pose in the second-leg.

He said: “We are not optimistic . We are very excited because it could be a magical night, but there is no optimism. There is awareness of the difficulties we may encounter.

“Today is a day worth living. Before a semi-final and with all the excitement in the world. It may be more complicated to live tomorrow. It will surely be before the game because worry and fear come. But living a day like today gives you a lot of motivation.

“It has a great history. Great tradition and success in the Champions League. We respect each other and it is fair that it should be that way. They did better than us in the first leg.”
