Watch: Tears fall as Real Madrid star Toni Kroos leaves the Bernabéu pitch for final time

Footage of Real Madrid star Toni Kroos departing the club’s home pitch for the very last time has come to the fore.

Real Madrid, of course, brought to a close the club’s domestic campaign this evening, in a La Liga meeting with Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis.

Midfielder Kroos, meanwhile, was afforded a starting berth in his customary role in the middle of the park.

The German international enjoyed a predictably brilliant outing, ultimately named Man of the Match following the full-time whistle.

Prior to as much, however, the moment which all those of a Real Madrid persuasion were so dreading was forthcoming.

This came upon Kroos’ no.8 flashing across the 4th official’s board, indicating that the 34-year-old’s evening, and time at the Santiago Bernabéu all told, had come to an end.

As the entirety of the stadium rose to their feet, Kroos was greeted by his teammates in the middle of the park, who did their best to pay fitting tribute to a modern legend of the game:

Tears were plentiful as the midfield veteran took stock of the moment, with Kroos having been greeted on the sideline by the rest of his teammates, coaching staff, and then, family:

Just one fixture now remains in Kroos’ Real Madrid career, next weekend in the Champions League final at Wembley Stadium.
