Vinícius Jr. responds to controversy over ‘hand ball’ goal vs Almería

Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. has taken to social media this evening, to provide his take on the controversy surrounding his latest goal, versus Almería.

As so often proves the case, wide-man Vinícius found himself front and centre in the Spanish media headlines late on Sunday night.

This came after the Brazilian played a central role in Real Madrid’s remarkable comeback victory over La Liga basement dwellers Almería.

Amid a drama-filled evening at the Santiago Bernabéu, which saw the hosts benefit from a trio of 2nd-half VAR decisions, Vinícius netted a vital equaliser, a little over 20 minutes from time.

The goal was initially disallowed, for what was deemed as a hand ball infringement.

After being checked by the team of officials, however, it was ultimately decided that the goal would stand, under the ruling that the ball had struck the shoulder of the 23-year-old, rather than his arm.

Fans and pundits alike have since expressed their dismay with the decision, with alternate angles having suggested that the ball did indeed come off Vinícius’ upper arm.

But the explosive attacker himself is evidently of a different opinion.

Taking to social media on Monday afternoon, Vinícius unveiled a post, featuring a video of his finish against Almería, alongside the caption:

‘Great goal!!! This is how we always did it on Copacabana beach’
