Villarreal star stretchered out of Espanyol clash

A leading member of the defensive ranks at Villarreal was on Thursday night stretchered out of the club’s latest outing.

The Yellow Submarine marked their return to action a short time ago, making the trip to Barcelona for a La Liga meeting with Espanyol.

When all was said and done, Marcelino’s troops emerged on the right side of a 2-1 result, owing to a brace on the part of top scorer Ayoze Pérez.

As alluded to above, though, on an otherwise positive night’s work for Villarreal on Thursday, one source of concern was also forthcoming, on the personnel front.

This came during the first-half, when Raúl Albiol was involved in a nasty clash with Alejo Veliz.

The former came out of the collision the worse, ultimately stretchered out of the matchup with a cut on his head.

As per Mundo Deportivo, citing an announcement on the part of Villarreal themselves, Albiol, thankfully, remains conscious, since stitched up by the club’s medical team.
