When a player starts to perform well in La Liga and at international level with the Spanish national team, it is only a matter of time before some of Europe’s biggest clubs come calling.
This seems to be the case with Villarreal star Álex Baena. After an impressive showing for Spain in their gold-medal winning effort at the Olympic games, as well as impressive performances in the Nations League, interest in the 23-year-old has never been higher.
As per ElDesmarque, Atlético Madrid are one of the teams interested in securing Baena’s signature, but they could have a tough task given the midfielder’s contract currently runs until 2028.
The fact that Baena is currently secure in a long-term contract could mean that Atleti may have to fork up around €60 million to get their man, given that is where his release clause lies.
With his great form in the League this season, Baena’s signature could be hotly contested when his contract comes closer to its conclusion.
The Madrid club could also face competition from Tottenham Hotspur for Baena, who may be tempted by a move to the Premier League rather than remaining in La Liga.
