Villarreal to assess forward Ben Brereton’s fitness after international duty with Chile

One of the last Villarreal players to return from international will be Chile international Ben Brereton, who worried staff at the Castellón club in the early hours of Wednesday morning when he was taken off against Colombia due to injury.

The England-born striker left the field of play in the 76th minute, although he said after the match that it did not appear to be a serious injury. “I had a knock, but I feel fine, it’s nothing serious. I was tired, I felt pain, but it’s nothing major,” the former Blackburn Rovers forward said in words transcribed by Marca.

Villarreal will assess his condition once he returns to the club from his spell away with his national team.

Life at Villarreal

The 24-year-old has played 103 minutes in three matches for Villarreal this season. He was a starter in Mallorca, the only match that the Yellow Submarine have won so far this season. Capable of playing both as a striker and on the left side of the forward line, it remains to be seen how he will fit into the new system that Pacheta will put in place after replacing Quique Setién as head coach.
