Villarreal boss Marcelino confirms Ayoze Pérez injury blow

Villarreal head coach Marcelino has on Sunday confirmed an untimely injury blow in his squad.

The Yellow Submarine are primed to return to action on Monday night, hopeful of keeping alive a positive start to the campaign in a La Liga meeting with Las Palmas.

As alluded to above, though, in efforts towards as much, Villarreal will be forced to make do with a key member of the club’s frontline.

Ayoze Pérez is fresh off a superb start to life at La Cerámica, which has seen him find the net six times in seven appearances (four starts).

The former Newcastle United man, however, will not be afforded the opportunity to add to his tally on Monday.

Speaking during a pre-match press conference this afternoon, Marcelino was asked for the latest on the fitness situation on his squad.

And the Spanish tactician went on to confirm that Ayoze has picked up a minor injury problem:

“We don’t want to take a risk that it turns into a long-term injury.”
