Villarreal have verbal agreement in place with Edinson Cavani

Villarreal have agreed a deal to sign Edinson Cavani on a free transfer, as communicated by Marca.

The 35-year-old Uruguayan striker has been a free agent since he was released by Manchester United at the end of the 2021/22 season.

However, the deal depends on whether The Yellow Submarine are able to sell one of their other forwards to help free up the budget necessary to complete the signing.

It is reported that Paco Alcácer is the player to be sacrificed to allow for the deal to be completed, with the 28-year-old Spaniard training separately from the squad.

Celta Vigo are reportedly interested in signing Alcácer.

Cavani would be a valuable addition to the Villarreal team, bringing with him years of experience at the highest level of football.

The Uruguayan, who was previously linked with a move to Rayo Vallecano, is hoping to revive his career after only netting two goals in 15 games for the Red Devils last season.
