Villarreal and Brighton close to agreeing deal for Pervis Estupiñán

Villarreal and Brighton are close to agreeing a deal for left-back Pervis Estupiñán, according to journalist María José Flores.

Relevo report that the fee for the Ecuador international could be in the region of €17m as Brighton look to cover the gap left by Spanish full-back Marc Cucurella, who recently joined Chelsea in a deal worth over €60m.

Estupiñán has also had interest from Nottingham Forest and Tottenham. The full-back didn’t feature play in Villarreal’s La Liga opener against Real Valladolid. Alfonso Pedraza played at left-back for Unai Emery’s side in their 3-0 win away to Ronaldo Nazario’s Valladolid.

Estupiñán, 24, has a contract with the Yellow Submarine until 2027. He joined the club from Watford in September 2020.

Official confirmation from both clubs is expected in the coming hours. At Brighton, Estupiñán is tipped to be a starter for Graham Potter’s side, who won their opening game of the season against Manchester United and drew 0-0 against Newcastle on Saturday.
