Valencia search for Gennaro Gattuso’s replacement

Valencia are hoping that Voro can turn the situation around at Mestalla as they prepare to face Athletic Club on Saturday.

As Relevo reported after the team’s 1-0 defeat to Girona, Voro, who has been brought in again on an interim basis, is not going to be the long-term head coach of Los Che, especially if results don’t improve.

And that is where Peter Lim comes in. Lim was the first to say that if he left Voro in charge it was because of the difficulty of appointing Nuno Espírito Santo.

He held calls with Nuno last week, and they analysed the club’s squad together, giving mutual feedback on what was expected.

However, the €6m clause that the Portuguese coach has at Al Ittihad continues to hold Lim back from bringing him in and Nuno has also been called in the last few hours by Leeds United to find out about his situation.

Lim has entrusted Jorge Mendes to search for the next candidate after Gennaro Gattuso agreed to leave the club.

Another name that has been linked with the managerial role is Palmeiras head coach Abel Ferreira – who initially declined the call – but his profile is the one that Lim is moving towards: coaches that Mendes trusts.
