Valencia manager Gennaro Gattuso eyes winger Matteo Politano

Recently appointed Valencia manager Gennaro Gattuso has eyed Matteo Politano as a potential transfer target but there are several differences between them and Napoli to go ahead with a deal, reports AS.

Politano played under Gattuso at Napoli in the 2020/21 season, and the Italian manager wants his compatriot at Valencia to bolster the wings.

The economic situation at Valencia, however, remains the big stumbling block. Napoli are reportedly reluctant lto let go of Politano, having signed him permanently from Inter just last season for €20 million. According to AS, Napoli have demanded the same figure from Valencia, which the latter would not be able to meet given its current financial state. Napoli are reportedly willing to entertain a loan move with an obligatory purchase option, but Valencia do not want to go ahead with such an operation.

Valencia representatives have informed Politano’s agent Mario Giuffredi that Valencia first need to make money through sales before they can go ahead with a deal for the Italian winger.

Politano scored five times and assisted seven in all competitions for Napoli last season.
