Under-fire Real Madrid star is dominating Europe’s top-5 leagues in final-third passes

A head-turning statistic, highlighting the excellence of one Real Madrid star when it comes to progressive passing this season, has on Friday come to the fore online.

The player in question? Aurélien Tchouaméni.

France international Tchouaméni, for his part, has played a key role for Spanish champions Real over the early weeks of the new term.

With Toni Kroos having moved on, and Eduardo Camavinga sidelined, the former AS Monaco man has stood as a near ever-present at the base of Carlo Ancelotti’s midfield.

All told, across Los Blancos’ seven outings in all competitions, Tchouaméni has been afforded six starts.

Interestingly, the 24-year-old has actually attracted plenty of criticism along the way, with many of a Real Madrid persuasion of the opinion that Tchouaméni has still not developed into the kind of player capable of controlling the battle in the middle of the park.

One aspect of his game which should in no way be talked down on, however, is the Frenchman’s progressive passing.

As revealed by statisticians DataMB, of the midfielders aged 24 and under in Europe’s top-5 leagues in 2024/25, Tchouaméni has directed over 50% more passes into the final third than any other player.

The Blancos man has racked up 66 such passes to date, with Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton next on the list, a full 26 behind:
