Uncertainty over Jan Oblak’s Atlético future: Open to a move?

Jan Oblak, who was once considered to be among the best goalkeepers in the world, now has increasing doubts about his future at Atlético Madrid. Reports from various sources, including El Desmarque, indicate a possible transfer in the forthcoming transfer window as rumours are rearing their head more and more in a season characterized by defensive weakness.

Although Atlético Madrid have not yet officially confirmed the details of Oblak’s last contract extension, which is said to be until 2028, recent reports indicate that both the player and the club are ready to consider any suitable offers.

Even though Oblak has had a great career in Madrid, his form has been on the decline for the past few years, especially evident given Atlético’s troubles defensively this season. Nevertheless, Diego Simeone has consistently used him as the starting goalkeeper in all competitions throughout the season.

The ongoing talks about a possible departure of Oblak have led Atlético Madrid to consider alternatives, and Giorgi Mamardashvili might be the next in line to replace him at the Metropolitano.

The Georgian stopper, who plies his trade with Valencia, has conceded 4 fewer goals than Oblak in an arguably inferior side, and is 3rd in the LaLiga rankings for clean sheets, with 13.
