La Liga outfit Athletic Club have on Friday announced some major news on the personnel front.
This comes in the form of confirmation that a leading member of the club’s first-team ranks has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract.
The player in question? Unai Simón.
Shot-stopper Simón has for his part continued to play a pivotal role for Athletic across the campaign to date, featuring from the off in all but two of Los Leones’ La Liga outings, en route to a solid 5th-placed finish in the Spanish top-flight.
With the 26-year-old having also secured for himself first-choice status at international level with Spain, it therefore came as little surprise when word was recently forthcoming in the media, that the San Mamés brass had begun actively working towards tying Simón down to fresh terms.
And, as alluded to above, on Friday, discussions between the parties have officially borne fruit.
As per a statement across Athletic Club’s website and social media platforms, their shot-stopper extraordinaire has committed his future to the club through 2029:
‘The iconic goalkeeper has signed a four-year contract, without a buy-out clause, whilst at the peak of his career.’
