Unai Emery set to turn down Newcastle offer

Unai Emery has told Villarreal club president Fernando Roig that he is going to turn down Newcastle United’s offer, according to Spanish journalist Conrado Valle.

“Fernando, I’m staying,” is what Emery said to Roig after Villarreal’s 2-0 win over Young Boys in the Champions League.

After the win on Tuesday night, Emery left many Villarreal fans thinking that he could be on his way out of the La Liga club.

“There has been interest but I have spent the whole day thinking about the game. There is no offer. I’m focused on Villarreal. If there was an offer I would speak to the president. In principle I’ll be in charge on Sunday,” he told Movistar+.

Emery has been the favourite to take over at St James’ Park, however, it now appears that he will stay in charge of the Europa League winners.

The former Sevilla boss, who turns 50 today, has a contract at La Cerámica until June 2023.
