Unai Emery: “Kubo told me he wants to leave Villarreal.”

Speaking to the media after Villarreal’s 2-1 win over Levante on Saturday, head coach Unai Emery revealed that Japanese winger Takefusa Kubo wants to terminate his current loan deal with the LaLiga club.

“I asked Kubo if he wanted to stay or leave [Villarreal] and he told me that he is looking for a way out. Take’s behavior is good, he has helped us and he must continue to grow as a player, however, he told me he wants to leave in order to find more minutes elsewhere and that’s why he wasn’t in the matchday squad today.”

Kubo is currently on loan to Villarreal from Real Madrid. He has spent the majority of the season on the bench for the Primera side, starting more regularly in the Europa League group stages.
