‘Traumatic brain injury’ – Atlético announce scary extent of Le Normand head injury

La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have on Tuesday provided an update on the wellbeing of defender Robin Le Normand.

And the news is of an altogether concerning nature.

Le Normand, for his part, closed Sunday’s Madrid Derby at the Wanda Metropolitano in evident discomfort.

After a serious clash of heads with Real’s Aurélien Tchouaméni, the Spanish international required the aid of Atlético’s medical team simply to make his way from the pitch.

Post-match, it was assured that Le Normand was managing okay, only for his absence from Diego Simeone’s squad to face Benfica in the Champions League to spark concern.

And, as alluded to above, on Tuesday evening, such worries have only been added to once more.

As per a statement across Atléti’s website and social media platforms:

‘Robin Le Normand suffered a severe blow to the head in the final minutes of the Madrid derby, for which he underwent a series of tests and was assessed by specialists who determined that he suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) with subdural haematoma.

‘In the process of returning our player to competition, the guidelines set out in the protocol established for this type of trauma will be followed.’
