Tottenham make €60m offer for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong

According to Gerard Romero, Barcelona have received an official offer from Tottenham Hotspur for midfielder Frenkie de Jong. The Premier club have tabled a €60m offer for the Dutchman, proposing a four-year contract with performance-based incentives tied into his salary.

The 26-year-old would be able to have the same salary as at the Catalan club, if he meets certain objectives included in this proposal from the English club. De Jong will decide his own future and will be able to choose to either renew at the Spanish giants on reduced terms or leave the club where he will get a better salary.

Barcelona may accept this offer, even though Deco recently admitted that the club didn’t want to sell key players, as a result of the delicate financial situation. Barca’s finances mean the club must sell players before June 30, if they want to bring in new additions in the summer or even make the loans of João Cancelo and João Felix permanent.

De Jong has been a vital part of Xavi’s plans since he took over, however with the Spanish manager now announcing that he will step down as manager at the end of the season, the Netherlands international may follow suit. Barcelona’s number 21 has made 23 appearances this season, scoring one goal in the process.
