Toni Kroos audition? Real Madrid star leading Copa América in passing stats

A head-turning statistic surrounding the recent exploits of Real Madrid star Federico Valverde on the international front has come to the fore on Friday.

Midfielder Valverde, for his part, is currently playing his part in Uruguay’s Copa América campaign.

The 25-year-old, as expected, has featured from the off in both of the Celeste’s group stage outings to date, against Panama and Bolivia.

Not only that, but he has shone bright, too, en route to back-to-back victories Marcelo Bielsa’s troops.

Valverde managed to add his name to the scoresheet in the early hours of Friday, as Uruguay made short work of Bolivia, to the tune of a 5-0 triumph.

It is his passing statistics, however, which have today begun to pique attentions across the world of football.

As revealed by statisticians WhoScored, Valverde ‘has played more accurate long balls (17) than any other player at the Copa América so far’.

As much will no doubt be of particular interest to those behind the scenes at Real Madrid, with Valverde set to take ownership of the jersey donned by arguably the game’s best passer, in Toni Kroos, in Spain’s capital next season.
