The one player from La Liga in Ecuador’s World Cup squad

Ecuador kick-off their World Cup campaign against Qatar tomorrow afternoon (5pm CET) in the tournament’s opening match.

Gustavo Alfaro chose to only call up one player from La Liga to his squad in the form of Gonzalo Plata from Valladolid. The 22-year-old winger joined Las Albivioletas permanently in the summer of 2022 from Sporting Lisbon after playing with the club in LaLiga 2 last season.

Plata has five goals under his name for Ecuador, with the latest coming against Venezuela in the Copa America last year.
