‘The offer has expired’ – Real Betis chief speaks on future of Atlético & Barca-linked Guido

Real Betis president Ángel Haro has on Wednesday provided an update on the club’s ongoing efforts to tie midfield star Guido Rodríguez down to a new contract.

The future of Argentine international Guido has of course long taken its place front and centre in the Spanish media headlines.

This comes amid long-standing interest in his services on the part of several of La Liga’s top clubs.

Both Barcelona and Atlético Madrid are understood to have made recent efforts to land Guido, ahead of the expiration of his contract with Real Betis in the summer.

It is the latter, though, who have since gone on to establish themselves as the heavy favourites for his signature.

Speaking to the media earlier today, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his side’s engine room standout was put to the aforementioned Ángel Haro.

Ahead of Betis’ trip to Croatia to face Dinamo Zagreb, the club’s president was asked for the latest on the efforts of the Verdiblancos brass to tie Guido down.

And, in a blow for the club’s supporters, Haro went on to hint that, as things stand, as much looks unlikely:

“At the time we made him an offer, an offer that has expired,” Haro began, as cited by Diario Sport. “If he wants to continue at the club we will have to sit down again and talk. Guido is a very committed guy, he is looking forward to returning as soon as possible. Whether he stays at Betis, I’m not sure.”

He continued:

“The player is not closed to talking. The days go by… Football is like that, when a player has less than six months left and you have been trying to renew for a year and the agent doesn’t want to, you may think that he doesn’t renew.”
