The concerning reason Frenkie de Jong is rejecting Barcelona’s surgery push

An insight into the reasoning behind Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong’s refusal to undergo surgery has on Tuesday been provided.

The subject of De Jong’s injury status, of course, has long taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital.

This comes with the Dutchman, after suffering an ankle issue all the way back in April, yet to return to the pitch.

Recent reports had pointed towards De Jong being set to mark his comeback this weekend, in Barcelona’s post-international break meeting with Girona.

As confirmed by a host of sources over the last 24 hours, however, this will not prove the case.

De Jong is yet to be passed fit for competitive action, with no date for as much having been pencilled in, either.

The powers that be at the Camp Nou are continuing to push for the club’s midfield standout to undergo surgery, in an effort to solve the problem once and for all.

FdJ himself, however, is refusing to budge in his stance that conservative treatment is the superior option.

And, as alluded to above, on Tuesday, an insight into precisely why has been forthcoming.

Speaking during a press conference this afternoon, Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font opened up on a recent conversation between he and De Jong, during which the latter confirmed that surgery on his ankle has no ‘guarantees of success’:

“I met him by chance this past weekend and he told me that he prefers not to have the operation, that although the club has proposed it to him, they do not give him any guarantees of success.”
