The 2 fixtures Barcelona are considering for Frenkie de Jong’s return

A fresh insight into the plans of the coaching staff at La Liga giants Barcelona to reintroduce Frenkie de Jong to competitive action has this weekend been provided.

Dutch international De Jong has for his part not taken to the pitch in Barcelona colours since all the way back in April, owing to an ankle injury.

The former Ajax standout was expected to be fit and available for the start of the new campaign, only for a lack of progress in his recovery to put a firm end to such hopes.

The last couple of weeks, though, have seen De Jong take significant steps towards a return to the pitch.

And, as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, then as much now appears closer than ever before.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo:

‘Flick and his assistants are planning to be able to count on De Jong for the last week before the international break in October.’

The intention, as things stand, is therefore for De Jong to mark his comeback against either Young Boys (October 1st) or Alavés (October 6th).
