Szczęsny vs Peña: Hansi Flick confirms goalkeeper plans for Barcelona vs Sevilla

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has confirmed his plans between the posts for the club’s upcoming meeting with Sevilla.

The subject of the battle for the starting gloves in the Barcelona goal has of course proven a headline talking point in Catalunya’s capital for the last couple of weeks.

This comes after the Camp Nou brass opted to bring in Wojciech Szczęsny, on the back of the long-term injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen.

The Pole has spent the last fortnight ramping up his fitness levels at Barca’s training ground, with a view to being available for selection this weekend.

Speaking to the media on Friday, meanwhile, he confirmed:

“I am training to play in the match and I am mentally ready.”

During his pre-Sevilla press conference this afternoon, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Szczęsny’s potential Blaugrana debut was put to boss Hansi Flick.

The German tactician, however, went on to confirm that as much will not come on Sunday, with Iñaki Peña set to continue between the posts:

“Goalkeeper position? There’s no reason to change things tomorrow. Iñaki Peña will play.”
