A surprise development in the future of Barcelona star Wojciech Szczęsny has this weekend been touted in the Spanish media.
This comes amid claims that the Polish international is set to be offered a contract renewal by the Camp Nou brass.
Goalkeeper Szczęsny, of course, put pen to paper on a short-term deal with Barcelona last month.
Brought in as a free agent following the long-term injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen, the 34-year-old was expected to quickly set about securing no.1 status in Catalunya’s capital.
This, however, has since proven to be far from the case.
In fact, Szczęsny is yet to take to the pitch on a single occasion, as Hansi Flick and his coaching staff continue to place their faith in the talents of Iñaki Peña.
In turn, it may come as something of a surprise to hear that the former Juventus man, nevertheless, could soon see his Barcelona terms extended.
As per a report from Marca, cited by Diario Sport:
‘The sporting management led by Deco intends to make him a renewal proposal so that Szczesny can continue for another season in the Barça squad.’
All behind the scenes at the Camp Nou have been hugely impressed by Szczęsny’s professionalism to date, with his positive integration into the Barcelona dressing room enough for the Blaugrana hierarchy to have decided to keep the shot-stopper around for at least one more season.
