‘Still possible’ – Xavi remaining at Barcelona next season not yet ruled out

Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernández could yet remain at the club beyond the summer.

That’s according to Toni Juanmartí of Diario Sport, who has this evening provided a fresh insight into developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

The subject of the hotseat at Barcelona has of course taken its place front and centre in the media headlines for several months now.

As much comes after the aforementioned Xavi sprung a surprise on all associated with the Blaugrana, in announcing his intention to step down upon the season’s close.

Citing the intense pressure at the Camp Nou, as well as the need for a new direction at Barcelona, the Spanish tactician went against the wishes of club president Joan Laporta, in confirming that he no longer boasts the desire to lead the Catalans’ long-term project.

In turn, recent weeks have seen a whole host of managers tipped to replace Xavi in the dugout.

From Hansi Flick to Roberto De Zerbi and Thomas Tuchel, Joan Laporta and Deco are understood to have drawn up a lengthy list of managerial targets.

And yet, as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, it is not yet out of the question that Xavi could stay out.

As per the aforementioned Toni Juanmartí:

‘At Barça they have not yet fully addressed the question of who should be the next coach. In fact, depending on how the rest of the season progresses, it is even possible, if not probable, that Xavi Hernández will continue to lead the team.’

As much appears to hinge on how Barcelona finish out the campaign.

Should the Blaugrana kick on to impress over the final months of the term, Xavi could well be convinced to reverse his decision.
