Starring Atlético loanee Samu Omorodion confirms plans for next season

On-loan Atlético Madrid youngster Samu Omorodion has this evening provided an insight into his hopes for next season.

Striker Omorodion, for his part, secured a temporary departure from the Wanda Metropolitano last summer.

Amid intense competition for places up top in Diego Simeone’s squad, Atlético opted to farm the 19-year-old out on loan, with the intention of securing more regular first-team minutes.

And as much is precisely what has since played out at Alavés.

Omorodion has racked up 22 La Liga appearances this season, finding the net a none-too-shabby eight times along the way.

It has been his performances over the last couple of weeks in particular, though, which have begun to catch the eye of those back at his parent club.

After first shining by way of a brace en route to a 3-0 downing of Almería, Omorodion was back on target again last weekend, albeit in an eventual defeat to Barcelona.

Such endeavours have given rise to early suggestions that the Spanish youth international could be in line for a place in Diego Simeone’s squad back in Madrid next season.

And, if the latest comments on the part of Omorodion himself are anything to go by, this is precisely his wish.

Speaking in a press conference on Thursday, as cited by Diario Sport, the frontman confirmed that, in an ideal world, he would rejoin Atléti this summer:

“I’m on loan for a year and my goal is to get better training here, but if I can go to Atlético next year, then much better.“

Omorodion also confirmed that he is open to ‘other possibilities’, though, in adding:

“If not, I am prepared for anything, to go there, continue in Vitoria or look for other possibilities.”
