Spanish government gives go-ahead for La Liga return

On Saturday afternoon, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced that La Liga has been given the green light to return to action for the week commencing June 8.

Matchday 28 is expected to resume on June 12 or June 19. Confirmation on the decision and a date is expected to be revealed by La Liga president Javier Tebas in the next 24 hours.

There are 11 gameweeks remaining in the 2019-20 campaign, with Barcelona leading Real Madrid by two points at the top of the table. The Seville derby between Real Betis and Sevilla could be the first fixture played when the league finally resumes.
