Luis de la Fuente’s Spanish national team has on Sunday evening etched its name indellibly into the history books of international football.
This comes owing to their hard-fought World Cup final victory over Argentina.
La Roja played their part in the grandest fixture in all of football a short time ago. After battling past tournament favourites France in the semi-finals, the Spanish were pitted against the might of world champions Argentina in the showpiece fixture.
And when all was said and done in an affair which was at times a frankly tough watch, the European champions emerged deserved victors.
Deep into extra time, Barcelona star Ferran Torres slotted a fine left-footed strike into the roof of the Argentine net, enough for a 1-0 triumph.
And owing to as much, Spain have secured for themselves a place in an exclusive World Cup club.
La Roja are now one of just six countries to have won international football’s biggest competition on more than one occasion.
