Unai Emery has convinced defender Pau Torres to join Aston Villa from Villarreal this summer and clubs have reached an agreement on a deal.
Originally, the player wasn’t considering a move to the Premier League, but his former coach Emery laid out the club’s plans going forward and the 26-year-old has changed his mind.
Fabrizio Romano claims that the centre-back will sign a five-year contract with Villa, keeping him at Villa Park until June 2028. It is thought that the club will pay much less to acquire him than his €65m release clause, although no official announcement has been made yet.
Under Emery’s tutelage, Torres made 105 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals, per Transfermarkt.
Bayern Munich were also interested in Torres, but they have decided to sign South Korean defender Kim Min-jae from Italian champions Napoli, with Lucas Hernández in negotiations to join Paris Saint-Germain.
